Paul’s MJs

It’s so fitting that in my last week, I ended up reading about Paul’s missionary journeys in the book of Acts. Reading about the first church planters and how God used their obedience just fits well with the themes of my summer here in Arizona. Check out the questions this devotional prompted:

“What special promise of God encouraged Paul (vv. 9-10)? How does this word encourage you?Identify how each hindrance of the gospel recorded in these chapters opens up new opportunities for ministry. What does this teach you about God?”Journey Through Acts: Paul’s Missionary Journeys (bible.com)

God is so so good! He doesn’t leave us to our own strength or strategy! I believe success in ministry can be measured by our submission to the Lord’s will. We have to be working on God’s terms. He is really the one doing the work, the heart transformation.

See for yourself:

Verses 9-10 of Acts 18 read, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” Therefore, Paul settled among the Corinthians and taught the word of God to them for a year and six months.

An example of one of the many hindrances Paul faced is found in chapter 13. A false prophet and magician by the name of Bar-Jesus, aka Elymas, sought to turn the proconsul away from Paul and Barnabas’ teachings. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Paul called out Elymas and blinded him for a period of time. Through Elymas’ opposition and following consequence, the proconsul saw and believed.

A Resource on Job and Suffering

God does not give Job a full explanation to his suffering. Like Job, we are given enough to not trust in the answers but to trust in God.
